Exciting News for this years 12th Annual California Cup Event. Two very special guests will be joining us this year; Jane Geddes, EWGA CEO (former LPGA Champion), and Meaghan Francella, EWGA Direct of Golf.
There’s no time to waste, it’s time to build our 2018 Cal Cup team!! Although we didn’t bring the Cup home to Santa Barbara in 2017, we played some great golf, had an amazing time in Palm Springs and are highly motivated to bring the Cup home this year!! This year we're playing down south at the Sycuan Golf Resort in the San Diego area - who’s ready to win the cup?
In order for our Chapter to participate, we need 12 players plus 2 alternates. To ensure that everyone interested has an opportunity to participate in this year’s Cal Cup, we will be offering two separate qualifying events on March 4th and April 1st, our First Sunday of the Month Outings. For those interested, you do not have to play in both events, as we only need one scorecard, however, if you play on both Sundays, you have the opportunity to use the best score.
The field will be split into two fields based on your handicap index, as we have learned through the years that it’s important to have a well-rounded team. Joanne Sumalpong and Kitty SooHoo are exempt from qualifying, as they are Co-Captains this year. The format for the qualifying rounds is Stroke Play Net. The 6 lowest Net scores in each flight will advance and represent Santa Barbara – 12 members, plus 2 alternates.
*Please note, per Cal Cup policy, the maximum allowable handicap index for a team member is 32. This means if you have a higher index and you qualify, you will have to play to an index of 32.
The Cal Cup weekend event starts with a player and guest reception on Friday evening at the Magnolia & Laurel Rooms located in the main building of the Golf Resort. This social activity provides a great opportunity for all California Section members and guests to meet and network with the Chapter leaders and members from all of the California Chapters. This event kicks off at 5:00 pm with player registration, a no-host bar, a rules meeting for team captains only, followed by a buffet dinner at 6:45 pm. After dinner, Jane Geddes, EWGA CEO will speak at 8:00 pm and take questions, followed by some fun and music with a DJ.
The Cal Cup competition gets underway with a shotgun start on Saturday morning on the Oak Glen Course for Foursome matches (alternate shot) and on the Willow Glen Course for Four Ball (Team Best Ball.) All Singles matches scheduled for Sunday will be played on the both courses with a shotgun start. Both days include a lunch buffet after competition and on Sunday, the event concludes with the Cal Cup Presentation.
The Event Fee Structure for a Tournament Competitor is $330 which includes two rounds of golf at Sycuan Golf Resort on Saturday and Sunday mornings with cart, range balls, the Friday evening Reception, Saturday and Sunday lunch buffets, and the Cal Cup awards presentation. There are also golf and non-golf options for those who want to attend and experience this fabulous event.
The total fee of $330 is due at registration sign up. Sign-up deadline is February 20th.
