Happy New Year! The frantic holiday season is over and we can look forward to spring as the days start to get a little longer. It’s been a great winter for rain and while it’s good for water levels and getting us out of a draught, it’s a bummer when it interferes with GOLF! But spring is on the way and we have an amazing year ahead of us! I’m looking forward to the warmer weather.
Unfortunately, our Super Ball Outing scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday on February 3rd was rained out. Catherine Remak had a great “Super Bowl” theme planned and was very disappointed that the course was soaked and the rain caused us to cancel the event. BUT, Catherine and Loretta will be running the March Outing so plan to sign up to play to see what fun theme they will come up with.
 Don’t miss our Winter Social coming up on February 19th. It will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Canary Hotel (formerly Hotel Andalucia). The hotel has been remodeled and is BEAUTIFUL! They offer valet parking or you can park in the parking structure next door on Chapala. The hotel is located on the corner of Chapala and Carrillo. Food and drink will be provided and we will take the opportunity to thank our past board members and introduce the 2008 board. Send in your check to our new P.O. Box for $15 or you can pay $20 at the door. Call Susan Parker with any questions. This is a great time to introduce potential members and friends to EWGA in a social setting.
Our annual Membership Kick-Off Event is scheduled for Saturday, March 8th at Glen Annie Golf Club. Registration will begin at 8:30 and breakfast will be served at 9:00 am. We will have a few announcements, a prize raffle and putting contest followed by golf. You have the option of joining us for the Kick-Off Event or make a day of it and “Stay and Play” 18 holes of golf. We have tee times available starting at noon. Flyers will be sent in a blast by February 8th to give you plenty of time to sign up! This is a great opportunity to invite potential members to come meet us and stay and play golf. We had a number of new members join last year and we are looking forward to another great turn out. Gretchen Ostergren can field any questions you may have.
We will continue to play our regular outings at Santa Barbara Golf Club on the first Sunday of every month except August. We have also scheduled 6 additional outings at Glen Annie throughout the year. All are on the 3rd Saturday with the exception of October which is on the 3rd Sunday. Watch the website for the flyers for these events.
 League play starts soon with daylight savings time in March. We will start the season with our popular Mentor/ Mentee league. Beth Rinehold, our Education and Player Development Chair will be running this program. Watch for the flyer coming in March. Spring League will follow Mentor/Mentee and we can play golf on Wednesday evenings all the way through the fall!
Our chapter will again be hosting the Santa Barbara Women’s Open and we will begin the planning process very soon. If you would like to participate as a volunteer on the committee, please contact me.
I had the opportunity to attend the EWGA Winter Leadership Conference on January 31st and February 1st in San Jose. Association Headquarters planned an outstanding conference and provided an amazing amount of information and ideas to help chapters improve and maximize the benefits for our members. Look for the new National website coming by late February with further improvements throughout the year.
